Oxford University is in financial crisis. Already it is facing a
£20 million shortfall in funds just to cover its administration
costs. Its reputation for high standards in teaching are being
eroded. A week seldom goes past without an article in a
national newspaper detailing their financial problems. The
building of the new animal research laboratory cannot be helping
the financial crisis they find themselves in. Last July work
on the new lab came to a juddering halt and all has remained
silent at the site since that time.
Every day that passes by
without work resuming, is adding to the cost of building the lab,
the whole University is having to suffer because of the
disproportionate influence of a small minority determined to
expand the vivisection capabilities of the University.
Unfortunately an institution like Oxford isn't run along moral or
ethical lines, the bottom line is money and how they achieve that
goal is immaterial to those that wield the power at the
University. In this particular case re the new animal lab, it is
the animals that are destined to suffer, so that a few can
make a quick buck, its up to those that are ruled by higher
principles to stop them.
The only way the
University can survive in its present state is from private
funding, wealthy benefactors willing to support various
projects and departments donate money to the University. Never has
there been a more appropriate time for people to contact these
companies and ask them to withhold their donations until
such time that the University adopt a more moral and enlightened
as well as a more progressive attitude towards scientific
research.
Below are the details
for Atlantic Philanthropies, a charitable organisation who have
funded research at Oxford University. Please contact them
politely and ask them to withdraw any future funding until the
University stops promoting scientific fraud and cruelty and starts
practising real science instead. Ask them to join the boycott of
Oxford University until such a time that a permanent cessation of
their plans to build the lab is announced.
