"One woman said it's probably going to cost her a divorce but she's going to spend the rest of her life looking for her dog. She will not stop until she finds out what happened to him. She said she had that dog eight years; it's not just a dog, it's family."

Rescue Notes Reveal Problems at Shelter

i know for a fact that the animals have been starved and that the shelter director has told the employees that she is 'watching them' to see if they break the rules and feed any of the dogs any more than 1/2 cup of kibble a day.
to make it worse,  they then give these starved dogs the SAFER temperment test, a part of which evaluates the dogs' reaction to having a bowl of food taken away from them.  the shelter then assures itself that NO dog can pass the test.

--- Carloline, can you tell me what is going on here at Kern County.
I thought things were getting better and your group in CA. had won
the lawsuit against this shelter.
Is this true? Are the animals starving? We must get back to work on
this. Let me know how our group can help.

I am sending photos of Francis on the day he was rescued from the Kern County Animal Shelter in Bakersfield. He was there for 9 days  and he wasn't even looked at by a veterinarian and he was fed a  little food everyday. They have a policy of " why feed an animal if  you are going to kill it in a couple of days"?

I can't just walk away from this problem without trying to fix it.  I  don't want to attack the Bakersfield Animal Shelter. Unless they  won't cooperate with us, then we will rally an army of supporters, if  we can find them. I want them to accept that they need help from  resident volunteers and animal rescue organizations like mine that  help animal shelters increase adoptions and treat animal in a more
> compassionate way. Please contact me if you can offer any
suggestions  or help. I am trying to put together a list of problems and people  both sides of this issue, as well as budget information, laws  involved and County Animal Shelter numbers on monthly and yearly  quantities of animals.

This is an abomination.

This dog (Francis) was 30 pounds underweight when Wanda grabbed him
from the shelter and raced him to Ursula's vet.  Francis had been at the shelter for (I think) 10 days, had no vet care, was "fed" once a day (in addition to starving, he couldn't keep food DOWN)

He had many people rooting for him while he struggled valiantly to
hang on at Dr. Mohans, but sadly Francis did not make it.

I never met him, but I WILL remember him.  This can not happen
again.

Thank you, Ursula, for all you did for Francis and for all you do.

Maybe contacting the Humane Society of the United States or
American
Humane Association and getting them involved would help clean up this shelter so they would be more responsible. That kind of neglect has to be stopped. Jane and Jim

  • USAPE officials further want to see the release of Spalding County Animal Shelter's animals pending a pitbull fighting and cruelty case and a court date set for the convicted felon being held for his involvement. He still walks free after more than three years of delays and postponements. Please assist us in writing letters requesting the release of these animals.
